Creating a Perfect Job Interview
With a solid resume in hand, we provide some of the top tips for creating an excellent job interview.
Before you sit down to write your resume, you should take some time to prepare what you are going to include. This video will show you what you should include in a resume, and just as importantly, what not to include. Include an Objective Line. This will let potential employers know exactly what your goals are. Your objective line should be tailored to fit the company you are sending it to. For example, if you applying for a customer service position include an objective line like "Provide excellent customer service on a daily basis" Include your skills and education. Prepare a list of all the schools you have attended and what kind of degree you earned. Even if you didn't earn a degree, it's a good idea to list schools you attended and what you studied. If you have had no education past high school, simply list that you have a high school diploma. If you have specific skills a job you are applying for calls for, make sure to include them. For example if you are applying for a job as a court recorder you want to list that you can type and precisely how many words per minute you are capable of. Include your employment history. A good rule of thumb to follow is to list all the jobs you have held for the past ten years. Dates are important and you should include them on your resume. Describe what you did in each job. These descriptions should be tailored to the job you're applying for. Make sure your facts are accurate. Discrepancies in your job history may throw up red flags in HR. You may include references on your resume. But if you make a reference available, you should assume that HR will contact them. However most people simply leave a line on their resume that says something like "References available upon request" You should not include unnecessary personal information. Things like your religious preferences and hobbies do not belong on a resume unless they are specifically applicable to the work you are applying for. Don't list your past salaries on your resume. This may limit what the company you are applying for may offer you. If you list that the most you have ever made is forty five thousand dollars may result in you getting paid less than what you are actually worth. Most importantly do not lie on your resume. If you list something on your resume, you should assume that a potential employer will check your facts. If you do happen to get a job based off inaccurate information on your resume, it could be grounds for termination. Keeping these dos and don'ts in mind will help you make a resume that will catch the eye of employers.
